Contents:
Snails (Helix aspersa). Purged for 24hours, blanched and freeze dried.
No special storage. Simply remove the number of snails per feeding and rehydrate.
Easy preparation. Soak in warm water for 30mins.
Formulae fed Diet. Controlled diet ensures no poisons or hormones.
Suitable for Reptiles: snakes, lizards & turtles. Amphibians: Frogs & Toads. Birds: Ducks, thrushes and crows. Mammals: Hedgehogs, shrews, mongoose and rats.
Feeding the Freeze Dried Snails
- To rehydrate simply soak the required feeding amount in warm water for 30 mins.
- You can feed in shell or remove from the shell with tweezers. It is a simple twisting motion.
- We include various sizes of sails in the FD bucket, as the smaller snails are easier to consume whole, allowing the shell to be used for calcium.
- The bosc monitors are natural snail eaters and readily took to the snails. Other reptiles required a bit of teasing by moving the snail in front of them before they took it. Once they were used to the diet, the readily consume the rehydrated snails without enticement.
- While we suggest the FD snails in bucket are used within a year, Freeze Drying products keep for many years.
- The FD snails can also be ground in a coffee grinder and mixed with other food as a protein/calcium supplement for smaller reptiles.
