Gum is a part of the natural diet of several primate species.
Bush babies have 35-75% gum in their diet, besides animal prey and fruit. The diet of Fork-marked lemurs contains
majorly gum and furthermore fruit, sap and animal matter (10%). Other species with gum in their diet are Marmosets with 5-16% gum, next to insects and fruit. Tamarins have 9% gum in their natural diet, but the major part of their diet consists of fruit and insects.
Gum arabic is a complex mixture of saccharides and glycoproteins.
It has a high fiber content and is ideal as an enrichment supplement.
Suitable for Monkeys, Sugar Gliders and Squirrels.
Mix a small amount with water to form a thick paste and serve as a treat or add to soft food to stimulate appetite. It can be served as a supplement on a daily basis.
